USING A FOOT SWITCH WITH A KB DRIVE

Get a momentary on/off foot switch. Harbor Freight has one. http://www.harborfreight.com/momentary-power-foot-switch-96619.html
You plug this into the wall and your VFD into this switch. If you step on the switch the motor will run, step off and the motor stops. If you plug the VFD straight into the wall the motor will run. Your start/stop switch has been disconnected.

To set up a foot switch on the KB drives go to page 14 of your manual section 5.5. If you are installing a fwd/rev switch you have to remove a jumper that is in the upper left corner of the VFD and plug wires from the new fwd/rev switch into those contacts. Then disable the start/standby/run switch on the drive to have the foot switch operate properly, disconnect the run/com wires, just below where you hooked up the fwd/rev switch, and install the jumper you removed for the fwd/rev switch on these two contacts. Tape off the two wires you disconnected and tape or use zip ties to secure them back to the other wires and to keep them out of the way.

When you step off of the foot switch you have disconnected power to the VFD (it is not in Stand By Mode). If you then switch direction while the power is off the motor will start up in the same direction that it was previously running for two or three revolutions, then will reverse. It will take a little bit of playing with this set up to get accustomed to it and you should be able to work just fine with it.
