Iron /Steel arrowheads in 10th century Spain

Featured Replies

I need help! (Again!)

I need to find out if there were any iron or steel arrowheads in use in medieval Spain about the year 950 ad. This was during the 'Moorish' period in Spain when the Caliphate was the power in the country. Did they make iron or steel arrowheads? I know the arms factories could produve up to about 20,000 arrows in a month... but what did they tip them with??

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Dr David Starley Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds; presented on medieval arrowheads at the 37th annual congress of Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo MI; you might check to see what he may have published on the topic or correspond directly with him. De Re Militari was the "host" and you may check if they have other information published on such subjects as well.

I attended that conference and session and as I recall all early arrowheads were plain wrought iron and not steeled.

Contacting the Museums in Spain would be a good idea too.

I see the socket is overlapped. Was the socket then forge welded?
