Swamp Fox
How is the best way to store a standard car or truck 12v battery? It is fairly new and taken out of service. I want to keep it in good condition in case one somewhere fails and this can be used as a replacment. Thank You
Quenchcrack
I've been told never to store them on a concrete floor. Put them up on wood blocks, maybe connected to a trickle charger.
HWooldridge
Cover the posts so nothing shorts against them and put on a block of wood in a place where the temperature range doesn't fluctuate greatly.
irnsrgn
keep the top of any 12 V vehicle battery clean, the moisture will mix with the dust and the resulting short will slowly drain the batter, and always put on wood .I even put thin plywood under them in the vehicle
Ten Hammers
Just my humble opinion. I always keep the battery clean and I usually keep the terminals/cable ends immersed in some kind of grease (white lithium in a tube works) to effect di-electric (read non corroside atmoshpere) properties. If (which it seldom happens) I have a battery that needs stored for period of time I just keep it clean in a warmer place like the basement. Trickle chargers are pretty cheap but I don't own one. Really should use one on the mower battery.
Strine
Ten Hammers, Your mower has a battery???? Wow. My mower has a bloke that walks behind, he's always run down and in need of a good charge.
