October 25, 201015 yr Does anybody have any thoughts or designs for a salt pot- mainly for knife blades or other small items please? I was thinking maybe about a stainless design with a quickly removable lid.
October 25, 201015 yr Hay Philip how have you been. I did some asking about salt pots from friends they say they are very corrosive and any metal in the area will start to rust just form its presents. I have seem them it is a cool idea. Wanted to make some knives my self.
October 26, 201015 yr you should read up a but about salt pots, first they can be very dangerous, even with proper precautions, like near moisture is a big no-no, also NO stainless steel, Mild steel tubes.
October 27, 201015 yr Author Steve, Where could I read up about salt pots? Why are thye so dangerous?
October 28, 201015 yr I'm not sure I understand the post about "NO stainless steel" My shop-built rig has a 316L stainless salt vessel I've been using for several years.
October 29, 201015 yr Okay Sam, I'm still missing something because I didn't seen anything in Kevin's post about not using a stainless salt vessel and I read it three times. That doesn't mean it's not in there, but I missed it if it is.
October 31, 201015 yr In the industrial situation where my father's shop used them through the 80's, I was told that using SS for tanks would contaminate the salts over time. It is possible that there are new mixes where that is no longer an issue.
