ChronicCodez Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I am looking to purchase some Damascus bar stock to make a ring. The best supplier that I have been able to find is Damasteel via Michael Walker (US supplier). Are there any other suppliers that I should look into? I am sort of press for time and seeing as I am new to all this I would prefer it be thick enough where I can mill and lathe the ring rather than hammer and forge weld it. Also since it will be a ring the available pattern is a concern to me. I want it to look really nice. This is just an example but a pattern similar to this would be awesome: Could anyone steer me in the right direction? I would greatly appreciate any advice that you could give. ... Quote
Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I believe Tom Ferry sells bar stock: TOM FERRY KNIVES He also makes titanium damascus. Remember that rings not made of silver or gold usually have a silver liner where the ring contacts the skin. Timascus: Quote
ChronicCodez Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 Ah very cool. Thank you. Any reason why there is a silver lining in between the steel and finger? Quote
Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Everything should have a silver lining! Silver and gold (and a few others) are non-reactive. Other materials will be corroded by your bodily fluids, will often stain the finger and and can cause allergic reactions. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 This fellow on eBay always has some for sale as "buy it now" or as auction http://cgi.ebay.com/ALABAMA-DAMASCUS-STEEL-BILLET-BLANK-BLADE-KNIFE-MAKING-/250701113611?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item3a5ef3690b He also has scrap billets where blades were punched out and this maybe a cheaper option for you if you just want enough for a ring or two. http://cgi.ebay.com/ALABAMA-DAMASCUS-STEEL-BILLET-BLANK-BLADE-KNIFE-MAKING-/260653141630?pt=Collectible_Knives&hash=item3cb0234e7e Quote
