Sam Thompson Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 This looks like a transition from 'Cathedral Window' to 'London Pattern', unless anyone knows better...Blacksmith's Anvil - very old on eBay (end time 25-Oct-09 13:04:04 GMT) Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I don't know about the transition part but it sure looks like someone about knocked the horn off. Quote
pkrankow Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 If someone on that side of the pond gets it, and it is unusable, it might be a great source for wrought iron, or a serious forge welding project (similar to refacing an anvil at quadstate). I'm not sure of the conversion rate, but that seems cheap for a 200+ pounds of anvil, damaged or not. Phil Quote
Brasilikilt Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 if it's too much to repair, I think it would still make a great block of steel with a hardie to hammer on, and use in conjunction with a smaller stake anvil.......just like the old days. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Except for that little crack it's still usable. I guess that for a collector of transitional pieces for study it might be ruined. If you want it for forging I guess you make an offer on it. They may be open to negotiation. Quote
Sam Thompson Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 I've got no intention of bidding on a relatively useless bit of metal! there are loads of easier ways to get some WI if I need it. I don't even like the shape, it wouldn't make a nice ornament. The crack looks like a manufacturing flaw. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Oh, well thanks for alerting us to its existence anyway. Quote
