DIDTAS
HI , got a question for the experts in this field,i have just built a tire hammer and about to fit the anvil dies. the question is what sort of clearance do i need between the dies . i supose it depends on the material i am going to hammer ????? . any help will be appreciated. Randy C
I built mine with 2" of clearance at rest. My brother is building one now and he is going make extra bottom dies that vary in thickness to allow thicker material to be worked. I think that is great way to give your hammer an adjustable stroke.
jockaneezer
I'm toying with building a tyre hammer and have considered drilling three different mounting holes for the crank pin at different distances from the centre shaft so I can adjust the throw. Dont know how this will work out but looks feasible on paper.
DIDTAS
Thanks for the replies. i will go for the 2 inch and make up some packers.the adjustable throw seems a good idea. I have a 5 inch throw which seems to hit pretty hard.i think if i built one again i would buy the Spencer plans . I managed to get a lot of things wrong . however it works . only have the anvil fitted today . thanks again. for the replys.DANIEL TASMANIA AUSTRALIA. will post a pic when i get it finished.
