tips on shaping with files and sandpaper

Recommended Posts

Speaking of good files I do love the Swiss files (Grobet) but I find the Pferd brand will serve for most uses at a fraction of the Grobet prices. Pferd is nothing to sneeze at as IME they are VASTLY better than Nicholson files. For everyday economic uses I have collected a large supply of slightly used ones from antique shops and flea markets and sharpen them in vinegar. Many were barely used if at all when I got them for less than $2 each.

The worn out ones still make good knife or scraper stock.
