<a href=02082009198.jpg'>So after around 8 months of creeping up on it I have finally made something. Stole the design off Mike Turner and forged these up from memory of his pics (pun intended). Got a ways to go to match the finish and execution shown by Mr Turner. Took 2 heats to cut and another 5 or 6 to forge the picks.

Comments and critiques are most welcome, and I promise not to get sooky over criticisms.

Look now. I'm technologically challenged and have a natural tendency not to follow directions but I think I got it now.

The turn is going the wrong way...no... I'm looking at from the wrong hemisphere.
Okay, eyesight recalibrated now.. Hey they look pretty good.

can't spell for beans..

Finish will come, minimum number of heats and low finishing heat. You got a good eye, the curves are "sweet" as we say. Hard to explain, but easy to see. They either are or they aren't.

They look good Mick. Is there any "rule" for hoof picks? Obviously they have to taper to a point somewhere along the line and be comfortable enough to use for picking foreign objects from a horse's hoof:rolleyes: Do they have or need a sharp edge or just a pointed hook? I have a few shoes lying around but I'm not much of a horse expert.

They just need a flat point, think flat-head screwdriver. Very nice. Keep practicing and soon you'll be doing them in 2-3 heats ;). Now toss them into some vinegar or wire brush them, spray some rust protection on them and test to see how they work ;)
