Titanium Ed
i have a question what is the name of the flux that you use to forgweld with????? to make Damascus steel help (
nonjic
Lots of people use a substance called 'BORAX' (myself included) its widely available and cheap. You can buy it in drug stores, or in supermarkets, or off ebay (expensive). Its sold as a laundery booster or cleaning agent. Basically looks like a white powder (like soap powder) Some people dry the water out of the borax before they use it, I dont, and cant see the point to be honest (it boils off pretty quick when you put it on hot metal!) Threre are 1000's of flux recipies out threre, and lots of commercially blended fluxes, contining all manner of additives. My advice is to try borax, and if you get to the point that you decide you need a 'better' or different flux you will know a lot more about forge welding at that point and can ask a much more specific question. Rob Browne
If you are welding simple, carbon steels and not the high tech alloys then borax will work for you. If you have your fire right you don't even need flux, but the people who don't use flux are better welders than me........
