archimed
Hi all. I'm new to blacksmithing, although I've been lurking and reading posts on IFI for a little while. I just took an introductory course from a local smith named Shawn Cunningham, where I learned some of the basics - forge welding and upsetting among a few others. I managed to build some tongs and a hammer, as well as a punch. I'm planning to spend some time building a small (probably coal-based) forge in my back yard this spring. Good to meet you all - IFI is a really wonderful community from what I've seen so far.
Frosty
Welcome aboard, glad to have you. If you've been here a while I'm sure you've checked out the, "Blue prints and Lessons in Metalworking" sections. Plenty of good reading if you haven't visited yet. Take a lunch and something to drink though. If you'll click "User CP" at the top of the page and edit your profile to show your location it can make a big difference. IFI is represented by members from more than 50 countries and a lot of info is location specific. Also if local folk know you're around they can invite you to get togethers, tip you to tool deals and offer hands on help. Frosty
