Fe-Wood Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I got some bandsaw blades the other day and am wondering if anyone knows what they might be made of... I mean type of alloy:) They seem like an alloy of some sort, no insert teeth or carbide tips and they ring like the old diston hand saws I have. Thay are huge, maybe 3/32" thick with a 8" beam. Any ideas? Quote
Madmike Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) Probably L6 if American steel, 75Ni8 (15n20) if Swedish steel. But there are more and more without nickel steel nowadays. Put some between two 1084 pieces, weld, quench, etch and rub slightly with steel wool under running water. If the inner layer comes brighter than the outers there is probably some nickel in.
