scrapdaddy
Hello, can anybody tell me about what year Lincoln stopped using copper wire in their " tombstone" stick welders. Mine was stolen and would like to replace with same. Thanks Scrapdaddy

Alphonse
A very rough guestimate but I'll bet early to mid 1980's...After the 1981 reccession-certainly before the 1991 reccession. [They"re made of mostly plastic today TEE HEE!]
scrapdaddy
Thanks Alfonso, so I should look for one that has been around for a while! I e-mailed Lincoln, but never got a reply. I guess they didn't want to emit, they cheapened up their welder. Scrapdaddy
Nakedanvil - Grant Sarver
You seen the price of copper lately? The "Tombstone" is a low buck economy welder. They figured more people would cry about the price if they built it with copper windings than will ever cry about the aluminum. Nothing wrong with aluminum if it's built right. Charlotte
I recently bought a new Hobart, from Northen Tool (shipping included) for the same price as a New Lincoln "tombsone" from Home depot. Demonknight
Don`t hold your breath waiting on help from Lincoln. Copper windings are the way to go for smoothness of the arc, but considering what your probably going to be using a buzz-box type welder for, aluminum windings will most likely be just fine. I`m a miller guy myself, but i had a ac/dc Tombstone Lincoln and i loved it dearly. My loyalty to miller stems from their service and help departments, parts availability, and the way they hold their resale value. Millers are like money in the bank.
