beatamax
Hi it seems roses are popular so I thought you might like to see this one I made for our lass for valentines. I dont have a gas torch and the flower could really have done with brazing on to the stem, but given that it just sits on the mantlepiece. I need to work on my hammer welding though I hate the way ground mig welds look.
TASMITH
Right fine bit of work! Theres nothing wrong with thata at all and the best thing is that you made it yourself. Something from the heart can NEVER be bad! Terry
easilyconfused
Looks good. I agree that you should learn to forge weld. All smiths should know how to. However, many of us "cheat" by either tacking the pieces or fully welding them and then working the weld out with heat and hammer. Just remember to get rid of any welding flux and sometimes it's helpful to file sometimes so it blends in where the pieces join in a V since the weld is usually a blob. However, I always try to make the weld work by hand before cheating to get it done when I've ran out of time.
beatamax
I have been taught to fire weld but I find when its something thin like this it tends to get badly deformed or I end up burning it.
easilyconfused
Practice, a light hammer and a block of steel near the fire and practice. :)
