  6. well Not supposed to make fires in my yard...against ordinances even though our yard is just basically a dirt pile.....then the noise some person reported me to the nazi zonming officer...I was happily pounding out steel till about then.I live in a suburban area that borders a forest so...I was thinking about making a primitive forge in thye forest near a river too but im sure not gonna lug the anvil that far as it is 200 pounds...really blows my younger brothers liked to helkp me too (15 yr old 16 yr old and a 19 yr old ...the 19 yr old plays the baGpipes) so yeah kinda bummed >.>
  7. Hello everyone. I am a 20( 21 on the 31st) year old who likes blacksmithing/bladesmithing. local ordinances prevent me from doin my thing.(mentioned above) Are there ANY blacksmiths/bladesmiths in the Lancaster county Pennsylvania area that would be wiling to take me in so I have a place to work?I have my own anvil and one large pair of tongs,a few hammers.I lack a blower and i need more tongs.I also have some mig welding skills and I am also good at making new handles for hammers.I have not been able to make anything since late september and I long to beat on some glowing steel again. Can somebody help me out
  8. every single one of these knives have a kukri like curve haha :]
  9. My creations of steel
  10. Hello everyone!I just finished making a knife out of a railroad spike it took a week to make....rough shaping was done by hammering more refined shaping was done with an angle grinder and a bench sander.Edge was made with an angle grinder, filing ,more bench sanding, sharpening on various Arkansas stones... THIS IS MY FIRST KNIFE I FORGED! I was inspired by the Nepalese kukri.I love the whole shape of this very famous cutting instrument and find it appealing to look at as well.another on is in the works only im making it out of a rather large file.I know this is nothing compared to what some of the other people can do on this forum but this my humble(and very sharp) creation.
  11. Greetings fellow smiths!I decided to become a member of this forum to expand my knowledge of this Godlike craft known as Blade smithing(and blacksmithing in general) A little about myself I have always wanted to make stuff out of red hot steel(mainly cutting tools)and finally the other week i bought a 200 lb mouse hole anvil and some hammerheads(which i immediately made handles for out of ash)and a few pairs of tongs. I made my own tongs before but they wernt long enough for what i needed them for and they were very crude being only my second project. Now i have a makeshift forge made out of a metal box that is usually in peoples front yards that the cable company's own only i found it in a dumpster....cut half the closed end off and welded that to the open end...my blower is a vacume cleaner....I closed off the one of the two exaust ports and removed all vents from the opposite side... a very crude setup but much more effective than blowing into a fire myself,or using a double action baloon pump that those creepy clowns use to pump those animal baloons up. make my own charcoal....i raid nearby firepits for the spent hardwood charcoal... Im in the process of obtaining my g.e.d. and have just a math test to go.... my dream is to make quality cutting instruments whether it be tomahawks, kukris, push knives, hatchets, draw knives, mauls, wood chisels and blah blah.no swords though.....maybe someday later.... anyways glad to find this forum I hope i can learn from those who are much wiser than myself. :)
