I would say as long as you position your legs under the anvil you should be fine the energy will transfer through the gate down the legs if they are directly under the anvil . Where your legs are now in the picture looks good

I had an aso given to me and what I did was weld a piece of AR plate about 3/8" thick. Now the key to get this plate to stick is useing a high nickel rod, also you need to drill several holes in your plate so you can plug weld the plate to the anvil in order to draw it up tight. Then all you do is weld a little overlay rod on your plug welds and presto you have a very good useable anvil. My 8 year old son uses this anvil for everything including a little smithing and it has held up great and he even has almost taken out an eye from missing his work piece and striking the anvil, it bounced back and got him right in his safty glasses. So I guess if there is a will there is a way.

Hey folks just wanted to show y'all my local auction find. I paid 105 dollars for it. I kinda took a gamble on it because I didnt know if it was what I thought it was because it had like a inch of paint on it. I wire wheeled the paint off and sure enough I got me a nice little peter wright.
Weight marks show it to be a 72 pounder. I think it will make a great little travel anvil. Its in pretty good shape too. Does anyone know how to date these anvils somewhat, just curious as to how old this thing might be. -

I have used the tri stain but it was called aquafortis. I used it to stain gun stocks for muzzleloaders. The aquafortis is a water base so you have to make sure you whisker the wood before you apply but it sure makes a beautiful stain.

Hey guys. I have a question. I would like to make a bear trap and I can not find any dimensions on the net and I do not have access to one to get dimensions. If anyone out there has access to one and could get dimensions off it for me or if you have found a print for one I would greatly appreciate any info you guys could give me.

I started out on a hf aso, not knowing any better. Now I have a fisher norris and a arm and hammer and I will tell you what both anvils made the job alot easier.

Hello I have come to inherit two anvils one is a 90lb fisher and the other is a 123 lb arm and hammer. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with either one of these brands and if they are of any good quality. I have not used either one but hope to soon. Any information would be greatly appreciated

This is my first forged knife. The blade is done as far as i can take it before heat treat i still need to smooth out the handle profile yet. I am making this for a friend, he makes fly rods so i am trading him. I've made a few stock removal knives but this is my first actual forged blade. I made it from a file. Any ideas on how to finish the handle? I will post final picture when i am done.

thanks for all the input guys

Ive been told that pallet strapping is only mid carbon about .40 and wont make a tough enough blade. I know the band saw blade is tough but dont you end up with carbon migration from the high carbon steel to the lower carbon steel thus lower the whole carbon content of the finished piece.

I have a question. Is there anything as far as a scrap steel that you can get 15n20 out of, and if not where can you purchase some. I would like to try and make some damascus. Also are there any other combinations that work well other than 1095 and 15n20. Maybe some scrap steels? Any input from anybody would be great. I guess i should let you guys know my location too i am in Michigan.
