  1. Did anyone try "ROXUL" insulation in a burner?? It's the green insulation, where you an put a torch on one side and NOTHING get to the other side. They show it by putting a hand on the opposite side of the burner. This stuff is easily cut with a bread knife. Also, would it be of an advantage to put a piece of firebrick inside to rest the material on??
  2. I live on 10 acres (more or less) on Hwy 11 about 2 miles out of town and shoot my Rifles and Handguns in my Backyard since about 25 years. I had a cop come by once about 20 years ago and he was more worried about a reasonable backstop (I have) then the noise...LOL I helps when I sight in the guns for my neighbours and once in a while help the cops with their guns. My forge will be with charcoal (I will be building) I have to wait for warmer weather!! 4 Days ago our Hwy was closed for about 200 miles both directions (BLIZZARD) and right now we have 2 days of blowing snow and minus 12 Celsius. I don't think that smoke will be a problem, since all the neighbours have woodburning stoves!
  3. Thanks Frosty, That's how I got to the site, while searching for powerhammers....LOL and I saw Jeffs construction and video. Looks great!! I have a similar design in mind with some Railroad Tracks I have leftover from my bridge over a creek on my property. The two tracks SNAPPED during spring ice flow. YES, they snapped, I couldn't believe it myself. A railroad track for a ram and a piece for the anvil. It's a heavy rail, I think about 90lb a foot.
  4. Thank you guys for the welcome. I'm sure I can learn a lot and add to my knowledge. As I used to tell my classes, "What you have between your ears, no one can take away"! That is one of the reasons I will never stop learning. AND it keeps your brain tuned up, especially when you go past 60...LOL Wolf
  5. My name is Wolf and I'm originally from Germany and after an German Army stint (M109G Fire Direction Officer 68-76) I moved in 1976 to CANADA and live since 78 in Cochrane, Northern Ontario. I was trained in Germany as a "Machine Tool Fitter" (Maschinenschlosser) and worked in Cochrane as a Millwright in the Lumber Industry (Planning Mill). As a hobby I started to build my own guns (98 Mausers) and unofficially/officially fixed guns in our area. Mostly during spring bear and fall for ducks/moose hunt. It kept me in money for my trapschooting components...LOL. In 87 I went back to school and got a degree in Computer Science and started teaching at a local College! (Yes, I know, what a jump in profession...LOL...LOL) I'm retired now since a few years, since my second spinal fusion didn't work out too well. 15 Years ago I bought a brand new 400 lb anvil, thinking that I would have a go at pattern welded steel, a dream of mine since I was a kid. Right now I'm slowly building a forge with a breakdrum, old Vac/blower motor etc. etc. and I think I will have to build a power hammer to ease my back. Man, I think I just wrote my life story as an introduction...LOL Well, anyway, I'm looking forward to read and try to participate if I have 2 cents to contribute.
