  1. Mine too, 140 kg (308 lbs) but made in 1890. I'd love to see photos of yours S&H
  2. I like chisel marks, every time a blacksmith makes a chisel, an ax or any other tool he hits the base of anvil with it ... if it makes a mark it's tempered well. Chisel marks means that anvil has been used by professionals, every new owner should be proud of chisel marks!
  3. This is a Soderfors Paragon, I believe. Soderfors anvils are often marked in LBS. It should be a great anvil, no cheep stuff in Sweden :-)
  4. 426 kg would be a really heavy weight anvil and a very rare to find. I think Benona's blacksmith anvil is not a S&H, maybe on the other side it has a producer logo?
  5. Thankj You for this information, this is something I did not know! Benona blacsmith we are waiting for photos of Your south german beauty!
  6. Mine too! It rally looks amazing, very elegant shape and sound of this anvil is unique! Great looking anvils, I love the story about the trade :-) Congratulations !
  7. As I said earlier, Austrian pattern anvils are the most common in my country "JEB" anvils are among the best or maybe the best of them. They are cast steel with elegant shape, three step-base, church windows on the left side, round horn and a hill gathered in a piece of art well known as a Johann Elias Bleckmann anvil. On the left side they have a symbol of two two phoenixes and a JEB mark. On the first step of the base they have serial number, below the horn they have weight stamp in kg and a letter what, I personally believe, is a signature of the man who made that anvil. I don't know when they stopped to produce them but it is possible to find some of them in excellent shape even now. Here are photos of my first JEB anvil, 80 kg, 176 lbs, still in original condition, I didn't want to clean it because paint look very old. That's it, I hope you'll like photos and this short story.
  8. I have read many interesting topics in this forum so i decided to ask for help. Do you guys know the meaning of serial numbers engraved on S&H anvils? I know meaning of other symbols but Soding und Halbach serial numbers have remained a mystery to me! This photo is not the best quality but it's visible serial number is No 2 . Thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks for the welcome guys !!!
  10. Thank You guys, I could not take a photo with the old man who sold this anvil to me, he was too weak, I only talk with him on the phone, his nephew help me to load the anvil and took the money from me.
  11. I will, thank You :-) Thank You, I've just made a short description of this anvil in new topic:
  12. Hi guys, I will try to present You my favorite anvil in this topic. In this part of world Austrian pattern anvils are very common, I knew they were made in Austria, of course and in Hungary ... one day I've found a very nice anvil that shape, 202 lbs (91.5 kg). It was just a few hundred miles from me and I decided to take it. The owner could not tell me what make it is, the photos in the add were bad but it was so, so similar to Johann Elias Bleckmann (JEB) anvils. It turned to be a Skoda, made in Czech Republic ... they are well known of heavy industrial forged anvils but this is a cast anvil with beautiful shape, three-step base, church windows, round horn and a hill. It was not cheap but I took it home, when I cleaned the rust and dust I saw it has top plate forge welded of tool steel. There is another fact that make this anvil my favorite. The old man who sold it to me was a blacksmith for whole his life, he bought this used anvil from his teacher (boss) when he become a blacksmith himself. The old man has retired but his anvil is still alive in my workshop surrounded with his fellows! That's all folks!
