Can't see any evidence of the tool steel top plate.

Huntington Craigslist showing a 366 pound anvil in good shape for $400. Don't know how to post a link.
-
Ahhh....now I see why you didn't reveal what you paid for it. How about a good picture of the right side face edge?
-
man, that's a long horn for a Fisher.
-
I'm almost ashamed of what I paid for it all of $574.98....
No need to be ashamed, you done good...I paid $600 for the same anvil, and feel like I stole it . Lady couldn't understand why I would drive 720 miles round trip for an anvil - big ones are rare on the west coast!
In regards to how thick the tool steel on the horn is - follow the bottom line of the face steel to the horn, and that is the bottom of the horn steel. -
Hey Baja - that post has been deleted...what were they asking?
-
What did you pay for it?

Does anyone know the name of the "Fisher Museum" onwer?

I paid $1.50 a pound for a 400 pounder a couple of weeks ago, thanks to stuartthesmith...they are quiet. Can actually use it without the hearing protection.
-
Stuartthesmith- I'd like to thank you for the heads up...tomorrow I'm driving up to the San Fransisco to pick up the "large anvil" you posted about. Turns out it is a 400 pound Fischer in good shape. Thanks again.

I've seen (and missed) several large anvils that came out of railroad shops. A 800 pounder and two 400 pounders. The search continues...

Hey, if that's your tire in the background, you need an alignment.

i bought a 2 1/2 cwt anvil from brooks direct from the works in 1964-5 the price was 28 pounds sterling ,around 3 weeks wage ,my dad went nuts ,for spending all that money ,when we had a shop full of anvils i wanted a smaller anvil to go out shoing ,all the anvils at home were in the 5-6 cwt range, it was a fine anvil ,the only drawback for a shoing anvil is the heel is thick and not good to pull shoe heels out on, i gave it to a young lad wanting to start up a year or so back ,and it had held up well .
Where were the works? Do you know the years that they were produced?
Thank you. -
Considering a possible purchase. Can any one give me the companies background, and opinions on it's quality? Thanks.

Gobblerforge, how heavy is that thing?

of anvils that was for sale in California for 30k (or was it 27k?) is being subdivided into smaller lots. There are two craigslist listings (Los Angeles) - the first is 1300 lbs. of anvils for $4.18 a lb., the second is 1354 lbs. for $4.24.
No affiliation. -
200 lbs. A20457 just paid $ 2.25 a lb. for it in L.A.
Okay, I'm confused...Once they changed to the "A" designation, they didn't return to the none "A", did they?
So how is the aformentioned 31204 date from 1897 if my A20457 is from 1895? -
On the Sacramento craigslist, $1.75 a pound. No affiliation.
-
I'd really like to see this lot in person to see what kind of condition everything is in
Ummm...you're in Sacramento, the ad is on the Sacramento craigslist... -
On the sacramento craigslist. Will not separate. 83 anvils, 5 swage blocks. $2.50 a pound ($27,000). A&h, trenton, Hay-Budden, fisher, Columbian, Foster., Mousehole, Peter Wright, etc.
I have no affiliation with seller, just posting to spread the word. -

Yes, Thomas, I have a 400 pounder. Look at the small void on the side just in front of the hardy hole....my top plate is a bout an inch thick, and doesn't have any voids in it.
