  1. Wow only 6 holes?! Mine has 18-21! I must have really gone astray in my calculations. I just cut some kaowool yesterday and have lots of material to make plugs. I’ll give this a try tomorrow. Thanks Ted!
  2. My ribbon burner forge builds up a lot of scale (too much air, according to what I’ve read here.) So I turn my blower down, and increase the propane. But when I turn the propane up, I get a very bad “cavitation” type sound from the forge. Its not only very unpleasant, but actually kinda scary sounding. Scratching my head to figure out where I went wrong. The forge still works, but can take a little while to heat the steel compared to what I feel it should be doing. Note: I do not know what pressure my propane is running, the guage is faulty. Even if turned off and bled it still reads 5 or 6 psi. Has anyone experienced this phenomenon with their forge?
  3. Also Mikey, I have a 2” to 3/4 reducer on the air inlet. Is there a disadvantave to this large of an opening? Should I switch it over to 1 1/2? Thanks again
  4. Hmmm. Def a problem with loading the videos then. One is the burner setup in its temporary position, the next is a video of flaring the new burner flares on my RR anvil. The goal was to ask a couple questions- if I’ve read correctly, I should move my burners to the side of the forge as opposed to TDC, AND angle them down so they target the near side of the middle? Currently looking for pics of the proper setup. Question 2- when I lit the front burner, it would stay lit for only like 5 seconds, then blow out. Eventually we got the flame to “stick” Is that just a warming issue? Once its warm it’ll stay lit? Thanks, Casey
  5. So the videos wont post for some reason. Can anybody direct me to instructions for doing this properly? thx
  6. Lets see if this works: After days of trouble shooting, I decided to reconfigure my forge design. It was a real *unfun process. After 6 snapped drill bits, 3 whole saw bits burned up, and a whole lot of elbow grease, I was able to pound out the old burners I had originally cast in refractory and welded in. From the advice I found on here, I went “back to the drawing board,” and found Reils original schematic. I’m now trying to stick to that as much as possible. Had some buddies over who helped me try to flare out the burner flares to replace my temp set up. 4A54E0D2-4F73-42FC-AC24-001911D34D14.MOV E4602E44-5419-494A-A37D-6F02684FFC8A.MOV
  7. Awesome assembly of info. Wish I had this 8 months ago!
  8. Niel, Cant make that this year due to work schedule, but thanks for the heads up! Was on their website last night looking for info on meetups. Was at the scrapyard today looking for something suitable, but settled on a nice post vice stand and some other stuff for future projects. Cheers!
  9. Hahaha. I thought you make make a comment about that;) While yes, it’d be sweet to have a London pattern cause they look cool, I just mean something better than my chunk of railroad track!
  10. Just making a quick introduction to the posse as requested! I’ve been lurking for months and finally decided to go legit. Working on a forge, looking for a proper anvil, and watching a lot of youtube how-to’s in the mean time. Also been reading a lot of posts on here to try to educate myself before 1: asking dumb questions, and 2: asking something thats already been answered. Anyway I appreciate all the info Ive gleaned from you all so far and looking forward to mooching more of it. Cheers, CJ
