  1. Why thank you very much VainEnd84, it is a learning work project i've always wanted to get into, funny really when its been said by many of my friends over the years that what we do for a living we are not supposed to like doing at home. OFF Topic LOL a few things at home and at work, this is who I am, i'm just gunna put another pic up, the last one please lets not go on about it, it just shows how much steel is part of me haha
  2. Had to replace the 3 year old underbench oven all day yesterday, anyhow got a few things done also going to do the front door similar to the rear two, I reduced the amout of slots as you can see my height base plate is next then ill do the underside after.
  3. All info is good Frosty thanks will look at that once I get further along cheers.
  4. Thankyou very much ianinsa, anvil & Glenn, thanks Glen that was a question I wanted to know, that is it may be sacrificial that plate, so would you suggest then I also raise it up from its present position before I make a narrow ring around as a seat for?
  5. That base plate is it a permanent fixture or to be replaceable? it,s 12mm thick.
  6. IF that is the base of the firebox, Yes Irondragon Forge & Clay said up to 9mm wide slots are better than holes the block up.
  7. The firebox base plate is a dummy only till I got feedback from Irondragon Forge & Clay he did and said I would be better with up to 9mm slots in the firebox base, just to cover myself im asking all for the correct info before I commit as I do more, im also putting a pivoted quick release door at the rear as suggested for longer stock.
  8. Will be that then thanks much appreciated, to all that critique and teach me thank you very much.
  9. Cheers Irondragon Forge & Clay so what size maximum gaps for the slots 1/4 " ??
  10. First yes im putting in a horizontal door for that so I can do longer stock, and the plate in is only for show of the height, it will be 12mm thick and im not sure about holes for or slots in it so far.
  11. That plate in the firebox is a dummy at 95mm.
  12. The last pic is where its just about to be cut out Glen so 60mm lowered too ?? so Marc1 your saying 110mm deep OK will be done thanks. I take on board what you all have said so end result is no lower than 4 1/2" correct, bullet grate Charles ?
  13. 6 h 29 min (620.2 km) via National Highway A1 and Lincoln Hwy/B100 from me, I was over there 3 years ago.
  14. Start of today got two reply's about welding brake drums, Ive done lot of types of steels and alloys over forty years so I thought stuff that too hit and miss for me ,so bought some 200 x 12 flat and got this far in about 5 hours this afternoon, now my question to carry on is what is the best depth? it,s about 240mm square inside at top, I can change to what is best recommended it is at 170mm deep at the moment but reducing it will be easy as required thanks all. 500
  15. Thanks guys, as I said I only have a week off before I go back, I do appreciate both reply's, but im like a bull when it comes to getting stuff done so ive just got back after buying a 200mm x 12mm flat bar that im fabricating into a fire pit, might aswell go down that path as it,s what I do for a living, I recently bought a 250 amp Lincoln welder im super impressed with, It is way better than the 350 amp three faze ( 8 month old) machine I use where im employed.
  16. Marc1 unbelievable Marc1 his museum is in my State!! about 7 hours away,I thought for incite ( for me lol) this was his set up,
  17. G,day all maybe a straight forward question hopefully A brake drum is it cast steel, because work is a week off as I could get heavy bore pipe as my coal fired pot or get the drum today if it is welder-able with my mig/argon mixture, if cast iron I can just get a small pack of castcraft electrodes, thanks in advance for a reply.
  18. Thank you very much it,s great learning things I appreciate that! Again thank you Marc1 at least I know theirs another one out there lol.
