  1. I would like to know more. The jewelry thing will come after i have the forgery built. I would like to take the ideas of jewelry and implement them into the handles. Can you tell me what this helve hammer is? I would be interested in knowing more. Basically I am writing a plan over the next 3 years. Understanding certain components will help me forecast my plans and I can keep an eye open for materials as I scour for materials. PLease let me know. Thanks J
  2. Thanks Frosty. From the pics i have saw, I could figure it out. What is the different of using the tire idea in this hammer?
  3. Yeah, Im watching. I like the idea. Looks fairly simple to construct. Are there any clear plans in around. I did check the blueprints section, what I did see was fairly under detailed. Thanks J.
  4. Thanks Frosty, I am pretty keen with a welder and fabrication. My brother is a welder as well. I have access to steel salvage lots including all the steel on all my families various farms. The simpler the better. Small and compact. the biggest use of all this will be to fold billets for knife making. Thanks again, Jaret
  5. Thanks James. I did contact the guy in BC that sells for Anyang. $6000 is a little our of my price range. Definitly something I would like to buy once a guy can makes enough doing this hobby to sustain the cost of a nice anyang. What do use Anyangs go for? Thanks Jaret
  6. Hi All, A question. I would like to build a basic power hammer that runs electric. I can afford to buy the nice aryang hammer yet, one day i will though, but I would like to build something that can help me with quick drawing and folding. I only need to do the basics for right now, as I have a lot to learn. Can you guys recommend a hammer I can build that is motorized and can be build and a relatively small scale compared to the big monsters. Any takers with blueprints. I have a good access to various components. I would really appreciate it. J.
  7. I am wondering if anyone has any drawings on building one. Gas preferred, electric is fine though. Any help is appreciated. Thanks J.

  13. Been searching the net, only coming up with the smaller waterwheel types. What are the large wheels that the Japanese use, the ones where they sit down, kick back, and relax while they buff and sharpen away? Thanks Jaret

  16. Since is came to this forum, I have already learnt a lot of things. One things that has really spiked my interest in Damascus. I came across this site. The Men's Collection of Damascus Stainless Steel Rings by Andrew Nyce Designs How would one go about this? Casting? How would you also get the gold stripping to fuse to the stainless steel? This whole idea and process fascinates me. Any input please, its mostly out of curiosity.

  19. How do you make this? Tojiro Supereme*** fjfbfPf
  20. thanks. I do usually cut off the solder joints when taking it to salvage. Just curious if anyone knew a technique. If I do have clean copper pipe, I can melt it down for re-forging, correct? Can make billets out of it and do copper casting?
  21. I have read a bit in here, and I am a newbie to the whole forging world, but I do know copper some. As a plumber I come across a lot of scrap. This can be melted down and reused right? If so, how do you get the impurities out like the tin and so forth from the solder joints? Thanks J.
  22. what kind of blower do you have? You can always make something out of plywood, ducting, angle iron, etc. Depends on your fan. J.
  23. Checkout Moose Jaw. They have a Western Development Museum. Moose Jaw WDM: (306) 693-5989 Jackie Hall, Program/Education Officer Email: jhall@wdm.ca She will know. Good Luck. Jaret
  24. Today a friend told me that our provinces Western Development Museums offer weekend blacksmithing courses. Sure enough, I contacted them and they offer them every month for about $175. Sometimes they get advanced courses going as well. These museums are where you find all the old history about how our provinces can to be. They even cast their own parts on some of the old machinery the bring in. I am sure every city out in North America should possible offer something like this, especially those who live in the farming type provinces and states. Just thought I would mention it in case some people would be interested in looking into it. Cheers, Jaret
