This might help. http://www.matthewdwalker.com/files/Download/MattsPress.pdf I mostly use it for damascus. The article was intended for general blacksmiths.

According to Postman, the Z could be the maker. A man named Zulty worked at Trenton (Columbus forge and Ironworks) from around 1900 to around 1940. I have 2 with the Z.

Thanks for the confirmation. At least I know that he didn't just loose my info or something like that. I signed up at a conference somewhere and he seemed to be a very likeable guy. I liked the sketchey, notes in the margin type of format. Should have checked on it before now, but he said that it would be published on a "somewhat monthly basis". Had kinda forgot about.

Anyone know about this publication "Irony, the sketchbook of an apprentice blacksmith"? I had signed up with this guy for a year I think. Must have got two or three issues. Last one being Jan. 2004. Haven't heard anything more about it. Just wondering if something happened to him or what. I liked the publication. Anyone have a later issue?

Thanks Guys. Yea that old saw has a full 36" throat. It's a little scary, running at 6000sfp. Came from an old foundry pattern shop. I need to get some kind of gard on it.

Maybe the cheapest and fastest way to dry a space. I like a dirt floor anywhere I am on my feet.
