For that logo style the serial number is more likely 47112.

Also later ones tended to have the weight on the front foot at times more often than earlier production.

Yeah black frog I was thinking maybe it was a 4, but the rust got the best of that part.  If it is a 47112, do you know a date for that?

Boiled Linseed Oil==BLO   You didn't find anything in "Anvils in America" or was all your research done only online?

One of our IFI regulars collects logo photos and I was hoping he would chime in on the style and date range.

Yeah all my searching for logos was online.

We need the listing of the logo changes over time to nail it down. BF?

Hey Thomas I’m not real sure what you’re asking me there.  I tried to look up the history of a&h logos but haven’t come across anything as of yet.  I did see where one gentleman said something about a logo being the second generation but it was so badly rusted that I couldn’t make it out.

BTW as others have said, that is a nice anvil, not rough at all. Just wire wheel it and apply some BLO & it will serve many generations to come.

Thanks iron dragon, I’ve been reading through some of the past posts.  So far I’m in 2014.

    not sure what BLO is.

  4. Hello guys and girls

i just acquired and arm and hammer anvil.  It’s pretty rough but still beautiful.  It’s my first anvil.  I cleaned the Id numbers and insignia the best I could without getting too rough.  I weighed the anvil and it’s about a hundred pounds.  Is that what the 104 on the right side, stands for?  The best I can tell on the left side, is 7112.  Unless there is another digit in front of the 7 that I can’t make out.  Can anyone help clarify these numbers?  I’d greatly appreciate it.  By the way I had to add some pics of this beauty:)0CBB69E9-CDEA-4049-B7B4-0B0AEE1F9729.thumb.jpeg.a293fb2e1d9e97e3572600144c5b1a45.jpeg66D8DFA9-6D66-4B22-92AC-2B3C52EE8A07.thumb.jpeg.3ec732c23951ab6e81bbc4e80d28f2ac.jpeg997DA2A6-DDA8-4B46-94F2-09FA49305E64.thumb.jpeg.02dcabbd54445c29ea1c980beacc5504.jpeg788BA1C2-16A0-4CD7-9609-A0F7C2326E3B.thumb.jpeg.52e4e88a7f964f0a63013cf36603a205.jpeg770508DF-C0F6-4FFC-8A36-FB1E62AABECC.thumb.jpeg.aaa668c8a0bf6ef7d12bf10a5733cd0e.jpegAB28F03A-5C22-4196-B24F-80B7E3B0DA6D.thumb.jpeg.8fa84ed83ebda5590b75eef7488783e9.jpeg
