  1. I’m not a computer guy and it’s taken me some time to find the “Introduce Yourself” section but I’ve finally tracked it down after a week or so. Everything so far has been beyond my skill level on the computer part of this journey. It’s just not what I’m good at and I sincerely apologize if I’ve posted something in the wrong spot. If you knew my friends back in West Virginia and told them I’d posted ANYTHING on the internet they would’t believe you and would laugh in your face and say “MO? No way!” Anyway, my name is MO, I’m finally retired after spending 40+ years working for other people and now it’s my turn. I’m currently building a smithy and am relying solely on what I learn here + what my local blacksmith teaches me. He’s very patient because I know next to nothing. Anyway, it’s very good to meet y’all.
  2. Sage advice.
  3. Thank you...I have a friend that lives close by and he's having an event tomorrow where 7 or 8 forges will be set up so tomorrow will be my first time trying to make something. I appreciate the response.
  4. Hello everyone, this is my first post. I’m working towards getting a small smithy up and running on a budget. I’ve yet to forge anything but have been searching for the tools I need to do so and so far have acquired a Hay Budden anvil, a white oak stump to chain it to, a single burner gas forge that I’ve completely rebuilt, I’ve done a trade on a coal forge that’s due here any day, a treadle hammer and an old Buffalo Forge blower that a local gentleman gifted to me. I cleaned up the blower pretty good and my daughter put together a video for me showing the cleaning from start to finish. There’s dramatic music that she put on the video that I don’t know how to get rid of. It’s awesome to find this site...I’ve been reading it for a couple of weeks now. I know pretty much nothing and am very happy to have run across all of this knowledge. I’ve been a knife maker for 15 years now but have used the stock removal method...haven’t forged anything yet but I’m getting close. Nice to be here and I’m ready to listen.
