Glenn,
Thanks for the dedicated forum. As a general "non- joiner" and even though I haven't been a very active member of NJBA- I would recommend the group to anyone in the region.
I attended a anvil repair workshop a couple years ago and found everyone helpful and supportive.

Oh no ...I hope the blacksmithing fashion trends don't catch on. Not everyone can sport a belt with suspenders lol.
Great picture at the hammer Jesse. I didn't catch the blacksmithing show . IMO you smoked that three way build show. I got a kick out of the other guys stroking themselves about their painted frame "looking" like stainless. I also liked the boot bursting into flames, going to do that first time my buddy leaves his boots laying around lol. -
Sam/ Doc,
I registered for this class as soon as it was posted - thinking it would fill up quick.
Are you guys serious that there is a chance that the class WON'T be held... that would suck. -
Thanks, I saw a lot of red ones in the pictures from the link posted to the museum- was wondering if that was factory original.
Mine has traces of black paint- probably original. -
That is some collection.
Can you tell me what color a Fisher 130 lb anvil from 1937 would have been painted from the factory? -
WD,
Mainly used to hold things for grinding- drifting. I got tired of the smoke alarms going off in the garage everytime I want to grind or sand something.
I need portabilty now- no outdoor permanent shop yet .
Collecting parts for a full size post vise stand- base will be limited to the width of a door. Think I will use a rectangular shaped piece of 1/2 inch plate for the base- be able to stand on it when working. Also the suggestion of holes in the base for stakes from this thread will help.
I'll probably just use a hand truck to move it instead of attached wheels. -

Thanks for the comments, not interested in a trade. This vise ( unmarked) has a threaded portion instead of a leg. I have it mounted around the height of my anvil for a third hand.
I will post detail pictures- would be interested in learning more about it. -
Good ideas, I have a 4 1/2 vise i am looking to makea base for in the near future.
Right now I have a smaller one mounted to a 3/4 plate with tripod legs. It is portable but stable enough for mainly holding pieces for grinding.
I think a work area at the mount for holding punches/ grinders/ wrenches would come in handi. -
I just got a similar PW, can't make out the last number but it weighs 83 on a bathroom scale. Yours looks in better shape than mine- best of luck with it.
BTW- my PW came to me free- as soon as I BOUGHT a 130lbs Fisher- suddenly everyone seems to have anvils for me lol.
The picture is of the PW sitting on a unmarked 290 pounder on loan from a friends Mom- soon to return to it's flower pot holder duties.
