Thanks again Thomas, I will take a look closely at it... but his $1k asking price is sounding more and more insane.

Thank you Kozzy, that is exactly the information I was looking for. Yes it has a blower, however the seller has mentioned that the "tube" it attaches to is cracked. I have a feeling that tube might really be the tuyere, I will take a good look and get some pics.

There is one for sale locally... the price is insane but... I am a sucker and will probably go look at it. What are some problem areas I should pay attention to? It appears to have been left outside for a very long time and is part small pond and part bog... surely cracks and depth of the rust will be a concern... but what are the typical known trouble areas to check that a newbie like me would likely not be aware of?

Thanks for the info

Nice, I just found one myself today.

I will get to the weight shortly, no coyote or bird. Aren't these Trenton's made for Sears & Roebuck?

Great to make your acquaintance Michael... I miss Germany. I was in Berlin 1991-93 and again for six months in 1997.

As always, thank you for your input.

I have come across a possible find, a Buffalo Forge with blower with original cast legs... but quick over the phone price was $1,000. Seeing as I missed out on one with an anvil for $100... I would assume that the person selling for $100 just wanted it out of the way and the person selling for $1,000 is hoping to get lucky.
I am guessing I can build a nice coal forge at the $300-$500 mark.

I paid $5 each, and I do indeed plan on using the ones that suit me. The rest will be made operational and put on the rack till I can find a use for them.
I plan on reading and trying until I can duplicate them. You never know when that might come in handy right?

I'll give that a shot, she's been hinting at some flechette rounds.

She got my three books...
1) The Backyard Blacksmith
2) The Complete Modern Blacksmith
3)The Complete Bladesmith
I think she might want another 12g.

Sorry, I've been on the road all day chasing items for my shop. 50# of coal, 50# of coke, 3# rounding hammer, and about 30 assorted tongs in various stages of rust.
The Trenton anvil sold before I could make the two hour trip to the coast, my search for an anvil continues. I am meeting a local antique hoarder tomorrow that has some anvil for sell. Of course I will be testing them and getting pics (and asking forum members for advice) before purchasing... Unless one of them just jumps out as an obvious purchase immediately item.

Definitely, thank you notownkid!

I have read that actually, I have feelers out everywhere. I might have found a source via my Uncle, only about an hour away... old hunting buddy of his. Of course the wait and see part of the situation is killing me.... I haven't been this excited about anything since I was a little kid and it was Christmas time.

Well... second anvil I have missed out on in a week. Prices are pretty high in this area, or maybe it's just me needing to adjust my viewpoint. I have a couple more possibilities... but they are relying on somebody that knows somebody else that has one that might be for sale.

Does a firebrick fail at 2,200* or is that for a single wall layer? Does a double layer of firebrick increase that value?

I am greatly thankful for all the assistance.... Looking forward to the pics.

No clue, but I am about ready to sacrifice a pellet stove for a stand and rheostat controlled blower.
