This is just a follow up to this post in case someone came here looking for information on how to resolve this same issue.
The only way I was able to get this fan off was to go to auto zone and rent a gear puller:
- You will need to get the five (5) ton gear puller and swap it to using two jaws instead of three, the two ton puller is too small. (you may have to play with the adjustments in order to get the jaws to fit around the bushing)
- The center screw will be too large to sit directly on the fan shaft so get a 1/2" to 3/8" socket wrench drive adapter and put an allen wrench attachment on it that fits the full width of the fan shaft. The center screw of the gear puller should sit in the 1/2" drive adapter perfectly.
- The jaws of the gear puller will want to slip off the back of the fan bushing when you start applying pressure so I used a bar clamp to keep them on.
Please note that this is a last resort, I recommend just sticking with wd40 if at all possible.
