Hey All!
I have not started blacksmithing, but I an interested in doing so. I have to finish my PhD first and I have 2 more years to go. After that, I am going to move back home to Pittsburgh and try blacksmithing as a hobby. I took a one day class with Aaron Cergol last year and we made a camping hatchet together; I was hooked from that point on, but I live in an apartment now and have neither the time nor the space to really get into it.
I have a quick question for you who are far wiser. When I get to Pittsburgh in 2 years, what is the likelihood that a local blacksmith would take me on as a striker. I have a lot of experience with sledge hammers and can hit fairly hard. It seems that serving as a striker would be a good way to get a foot in the door. Does this make sense to you all?
