  1. Thank you I will work on that and leave this until I can do that. Or just start another one. Without a metal supply store anywhere around. Would it work to flatten down a RR spike into the proper size for the leaf? I have around a hundred of them and a ready supply.
  2. Hi, Im Steve. Just wanted to share my first little project and ask for a bit of advice. Sorry if its a thousand time repeat question. It's more of a judgement call kind of question. I'm working on some more beginner friendly projects now little things to help learn to draw out the metal. But first thing I've tried is a knife. I want to widen the blade a bit but when I try it kinda just pinches the edge. I'm trying to work it down from the top to the cutting surface but maybe that's not the way to do it? I spent around two minutes doing a bit of clean up just to see where I'm at and I,m thinking of leaving it be cleaning it up and getting it ready for heat treat. Just wasn't sure if I should try to bring the blade down or leave it be? I started with a normal HC stamped RR spike squared the head off a bit to hold it easier, then cut the head off later when I was ready to flatten the handle. But anyway thanks for any advice.
  3. Thank you , just did that. there are indeed a few. Unfortunately all out of my range. This is a small place and I know of no one doing this stuff. I did speak with a farrier, that frequents the mechanic shop I work at, but he didn't know of anyone either including himself. There was a guy on here that posted in the group list thread from the town over. But he hasn't visited the site in over two years. I went ahead and messaged him anyway to see if he ever found one.
  4. Good question, I was just hoping for a list. But it's North Central Tx (Quanah, Tx). Working on my profile now.
  5. Hi, I'm new to this hobby. well for me its a hobby. I've made a brake drum forge in a 30 gal barrel, it works great, and I have a hammer and metal to get hot and hit with it. So I've been doing that for for the last few weeks. But I'm looking for a group, in my area or somewhat near surrounding areas. I'm just hoping for a working link to a list if there is one. The one in the stickies didn't work and it wouldn't let me post there, so I assumed it was locked. I'm reading the site and have read all the stickies, but I feel the questions I have are probably best answered through seeing or doing it in person, learning from others with far far more experience than I have.
