   I just wanted to help. The reason I even chimed in, when you mentioned that your anvil did not have any serial numbers. That was the big clue my anvil was not a HB. 

  It just happens I have a Trenton and an American hanging around. Both are about 100#s. The American has the handling hole on the bottom. Could it be a Trenton ? 

   Time to nail it with the ole wire brush.

  Here is a shot of my American. I thought it was a HB, made for American Hardware. But it didn't have a serial number on the front foot. In the first picture you can see the handling hole low on the front foot. 

  Get some more paint of were the logo should be. I have been wrong before.

  Looks like an anvil I have. I knew it was a Hay-Budden. Wrong, turned out to be an American.  Made in Brooklyn 1888 to 1912. It has the same concave  base. Same handling hole in the middle of the front foot.

Just a drop.  I will ask my wife to help me post a video. Just a drop. How many bounces till orbit? I know and believe in my head and heart this can't happen. It's  just a drop.

  Just got a small tub of bearings from a mechanic. Most of them are around 1/2".

   So I get home and try a bounce, bounces really high. Again and again over 100% ? Physically impossible ? Is the bearing to hard ?

   I was lucky enough to get a chance to go to Quad State almost 14 years ago. A buddy let me tag along. I learned more in an afternoon than I did burning coal in my back yard for three years. There are demonstrations all day every day. The one thing that they all had in common, they all made it look so easy.

  Trailer after trailer of rusty gold. Its a must see.

   I know of a hippie "cure". At my house we use Arnica Montana in a pill form. It is for bruising and muscle soreness. Drop a hammer on your toe, its just what you need. There is also an Arnica cream, it is becoming more mainstream. The cream is awesome to help specific area.

 Thanks, for the info. It has 4 handling holes, one is low dead center of the front foot.

   When I was walking out to get pictures, It came to me, what a great weekend to liberate an American. 

   Barn find,  just picked up a Hay Budden. I was looking for the serial number, no luck. Next I took the wire brush to the logo. It's an American. I remember that HB made anvils under a lot of different names. 

   Any guess what years HB made anvils with the American logo?

   I have photocopied versions of a book with 239 pages, and what is called 320 plates. These photocopied versions were sold by a Blacksmith named John Kosirnik at, quad states. Each page has a written description on one side, and then an artist rendering of the work on the other side. 

   Is there anyone who knows the name of this book?  The photocopies I have start at page 20.

   I shot a photo of what I have as the last page, would be page 239.

Then the nephews 217515 is from 1947 or 1948.
