I would call that adapting and overcoming. Or using what you have at hand to get the job done.
i like the nut idea fore the spine.
Or just scrap art
getting some progress in tonight will post a pic or 2 when I'm done for the night. Still sad to have done whatever I did last night. Still not sure what to do to do it right as far as posting pics to my member gallery.

Das: Did you intend to post each pic individually to the forum? Are you aware that your entire gallery downloads too? It's not like posting pics from a file on your comp it's like posting a photo album a dozen times. Evidently you can't load JUST one pic without the whole gallery going with. I can check out this whole series from the bottom of any post. So, I've already seen the next pic and the next, etc. etc. I have to individually open them so they don't show up as unseen.
I gotta see what Glenn has to say about this "feature". It's mostly a hassle for me and is a REAL bandwidth hog.
Jer
Frosty I don't know what happened. I meant to just post these to the gallery instead of making a post yet. Not sure why it's doing that. Sorry bout that. Still figuring stuff out on the site. Can't say I'm too computer savvy.

Das pretty cool and comming along well can't wait to see the final!! I like skulls!!
Like how you welded the cranial plates. Did you dish each piece first or after you welded together?
Are you going to use a chain for the spine?
I cheated a little and used the rounded part of a fire extinguisher. I did forge and shape it a bit on an old canon ball. Also I cut the plates separate and tried to give the seam look with a cut off wheel but even welding from the inside I took some out.
Idea is to have the skull biting the steering wheel. There will be some spine there but I'm thinking large nuts will give the spine look.

Is that a treadle scroll saw?

Soaking in vinegar should loosen up the scale. Neutralize after in baking soda water solution then rinse and dry immediately. After that you can spray it with a primer ( preferably an acid etch primer) and then you'll be safe to paint and clearcoat it. If you are going that far with it use a clearcoat with uv protection like automotive clearcoat.
