Finally got that sawyers anvil on a scale. 265#. It is definitely fun to move around.

Not a member of any groups or associations yet. Is that a good one to get into in southern Az?

Hi all! My name is Shaun. Like the title says I am a fledgling getting started in the Tucson AZ area. I have been lurking here for awhile looking at threads on anvils and such trying to gather some information. Since I just acquired a anvil and am working on a forge I thought it was time to join and say hi. I really appreciate the knowledge I have gotten lurking and look forward to contributing. I have not Weighed her yet. The gentleman that sold her to me said it was north of 200#. I believe that, I will try and get it on a scale tonight. I do plan on learning general smithing at first. I plan on working through the beginner projects in books like the backyard blacksmith to get my feet wet. I have seen suggested taking rail road spikes and making knifes and stuff out of them are good beginner projects. That is my plan anyway. Just excited to get started, been something I have wanted to do for a long time.
