This is a small pendant I made after seeing one at a small rock show in Ohio. I made this one from a single 1/2" ball bearing, and an old nail. 

I hope I'm in the proper topic, I don't see one for jewelry specific smithing.

I love the curls those are beautiful.  This looks like a easily adaptable tool. I have a discount with my local scrap yard and can practice all day. When I'm not at work 

 That's way simpler than I was thinking in my head. I guess I tend to overthink things, that looks easyer than the image in my head. Thanks Xb

how should it be treated?

I wish to build a spring swage that fits in a hardy hole. i find that sage advice is the best advice. Any tips?  Is this something that can be made in a scrap yard? should I buy materials online? What's a good type of spring steel? You know, the basics.

I do not discriminate by level of "sage"

Is it something that could be of use to me? I hate to sell a tool only to find that I needed it later on.

It's all the way through, what I wanna know is, can I forge it? I bet it would make something awesome, but I don't want to risk delamination. 

I found this in a pile of old tools. It's some kind of steel-brass Damascus. I can't figure out if it's a machinist thing, or an actual piece of Damascus. 

I can see a visit to my local book store in my near future

This is my first real anvil, and I'm so excited. Could someone help me identify the maker of this anvil?  It came from Indiana and it is at least 60 years old according to the man I bought it from, he says it's been around since he was a kid. I cannot seem to find any makers Mark's or any numbers At all.

based on what little I could find, the man was an artist. The world is probably poorer for his loss.

Interesting, I've never used a hammer to make a hammer. Do you know of any pictures of his work?

 Has anyone ever used a steering king pin out of a semi to make a knife/sword? I recently came about one and am curious to see if it makes a decent blade. It would definitely make a big one.

try researching in the knife section, you will find that 20 points of carbon will no harden.

that's actually bailing wire, the oil is so it doesn't chew up the hay baler, i simply held it with a rag as i coiled it, but be careful, that can be dangerous, if you use a drill to coil your wire.
