  1. That's right Peter ,I would like to see these anvils being used as garden ornaments in stead of real anvils. Also like to hear from someone who is actually using one .The other issue is how they get away with having all the original brand name and markings on them. Heres  my real one

Looks like a real POS. Anybody try one yet? They just for export?

    George

George, I have not seen these anvils before, they are being sold locally, it is gumtree Peter. What is also interesting is the weight that the seller is quoting is what the original cast steel anvil weight would be.

  3. Someone in N east Aust is selling anvils,  or should I say ASO,  that are cast iron and appear to have been cast from real anvils. The add suggest the would suit blacksmiths and metal workers. the 50kg (112lbs) one has been cast from a bk  anvil($350) and a 70kg one looks like an old English maker($450). They both don`t have pritchel holes

Scored my self some more reinforcing steel to play with, cost me nothing!

     4 x 2m lengths of Y16 and 2 short lengths of Y28.

One of the Y28's looks like it might have been painted with cold galvanising or similar zinc based paint, will probably give it a bath in something to strip it before adding it to my steel pile.

From what I have read on IFI the quality of reinforcing steel in the US is a real mixed bag unlike here in Aust which seems quite good.I personally would not bother with that gal one.

  5. Could be a William froster but that's only a guess, there is a lot of old English makers that look similar,as Yuppiejr says clean it up then start recording all the information you can make out, there are guys on IFI that  would be able to tell you more. In the end it doesn`t really matter that much, just use it.one other thing though ,you may want to wear a respirator until the rust has been removed from the face because the rust dust can really irritate you airways cheers.

  6. Just pick up this little BK Sydney anvil from a secondhand tool shop, the seller thought this was 13 lbs as marked felt heavier, payed $130 got it home and weighed it came in just under 28lbs.I pretty happy I seen 25lb BKs go for over $400 and a 7lb went for 331.00 on ebay.

So I looked at the right front foot of that anvil and I don't see how that damage is affecting you hammering hot steel on the face of that anvil; please explain?  Shoot my most recent anvil purchase was a PW that had a foot broken off; I don't know how as the face and the rest of the anvil show no signs of anvil abuse---or even chisel testing.  Seems to work just fine as a 3 footed anvil and I've not been tempted to make a prosthesis for it.

Of course you wright, this anvil sickness is getting to me, I don`t even see the foot when I`m working.I do think it would be a nice gesture to make that prosthesis foot and an interesting project.
