  1. Hi Joel those tongs look good might have to try them , I have made a few classic scroll tongs and have not really been that impressed with them. That`s a large scroll was it made on made on a jig or by hand?

  2. Hi Randy my latest anvil has worse damage to the lower sections from someone testing punches and chisels and anything else they could hit it with, it also has no marking and a H stamped on each front foot.I am sure mine is a PW one because the guy I bought it from had an identical one which was marked as a PW and secondly Richard postman says in his book Anvils in America "It is rare you cannot find part of the trademark on any Peter Wright anvil. However even without the trademark, should a wrought anvil have four handling holes and the flats across the front and back of the feet under the horn and heel, you can almost always be sure that it is a Peter Wright"

  3. That's a well designed hammer the face looks like it would be good for finishing and the  large rounded peen will get plenty of use.Induction forge no noise no smoke but at 20 kva I probably couldn`t afford the power bill, although yours would be three phase I guess.

  4. Thanks for the comments, I would like to make a bigger one sometime when I get the right size tool steel but as far as selling the amount of time spent wouldn't match the price. If someone had a better equipped shop it could work.Biggundoc idea of making them is good just got to work out how maybe Ian got some mini stamps :) Imagine an anvil stamped 0-0-1.5

  5. Bradford and kendall foundry started in the 1920s producing many items for heavy industry as well as anvils. I own two 112lb I bought in 1999 and 160lb I have had for around a year, both cast steel and petty good to work on.The 160 hardy hole and pritchel are not as well finished as the smaller anvil and this seems  to the standard practice for some reason. Also the mounting holes  if used really quieten the ring.

  6. Swedefiddle good advise from someone who sounds like they  made plenty. When people first start forging, my self included, they often think making a set of tongs will be easy, it is easy but only after you have made plenty.
