That's the fix.

I went with 2 bricks tall and closed off about 2/3 of back and front openings and burner worked real well! I didn't have camera then or would of got pics, but after about 4 or 5 mins forge was at forging temps and  after probably 8 or 9min had real nice glow coming from fire chamber. Worked very well! I just went ahead and messed around with it for about 15minutes. Had fun but was unprepaired to do too much. Can't wait to get at it later this eve. Will get some pics.

So thanks for all the help you guys. I went from wishing I had a gas forge last week to WOW, I have a gas forge, in less than a week!!

Frosty's  T-Burner has got to be the best answer for noobs wanting an affordable gas forge. I have less than $35 into it, and that's counting the high pressure regulator for $20. The burner itself can be made for under $15 and the parts can be bought at most homedepots, mennards or ace hardwares or any hardware store. Really impressed. Thanks again. Pics coming soon.

thanks Frosty, the 1st burner was still new so I took back and got the Mr.Heater. Got some money back and don't need additional fittings. Burner works great in vise. Have small makeshift brick forge only 1(4")brick high X 1 brick wide X 3 bricks long and burner does good to certain point then sputters. back pressure? I can mess around with it again tonight, maybe set up forge different.

I did buy a bayou classic 1-30psi. It has 3/8 hose w/flare fitting.

I want to keep copper line that I had when I tested it with low pressure regulator and I now see that I can get a Mr. Heater(says 0-60?) high pressure regulator with 1/4" output at Mennards fr 20 bucks. Anybody use these? thanks again. I'm getting there.

Got burner built. Worked well with holesaw as jig. Bought 30psi regulator at HomeDept with 3/8" hp hose. What connections best get me from regulator to compression fitting on burner? thanks.

I have Badger anvil it does not ring either. I love it. I have HB too but it rings like church bell...probably better anvil tho not used as often.

Thanks much Frosty. I will try the sacrificial hole saw as my jig. Better idea than what I had in mind.

I've learned quite a bit since posting this this morning. I also found discussion, thanks to Charles search tips, where you give info on converting to 1/2" bore if it should come to that.

I'm getting pretty excited about getting this built but I want to learn some more yet first. 

eta: another question I have is about the coupler as the flare. does coupler work just as good? Would it be better to make flare to house the burner? Again, thanks.

thanks Russell. Then tip wouldn't be fix if this burner is too much of an animal for this size forge. I will just build burner to the specs, then if change needed, it will be forge.

thanks Neil. I wish I had set up to make exact. I don't. I have good cordless drill and feel fairly confident I can make good jig for it. It may be trial error thing there.

This is for freon tank size forge. Will .035" tip still be ideal or should I scale down? If so, how? I know his design based on ratio so change tip probably changes everything. I mostly see this burner with propane tank and brick forges. Thanks.

great thanks. I don't have drill press but should be able to make jig for hand drill. I know getting proper alignment is crucial.

Having trouble finding plans for Frosty's T-Burner. Looked this site over pretty good and thought I found something I could use in older post but was unable to open attachment. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

i too use charcoal exclusively, so far. I do have bags of coal that I have not used because my forge is still without hood. I was wondering if blacksmith coal can have impurities burned off in a charcoal retort?

I actually got another here lately very cheap and wondering if could get more of ya alls expertise. It says Lakeside on it with 84 under that, then on other side has 93 and has serial# 186634. Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated.

Hi, was wondering if anyone new of any coal sources in Lincoln or Omaha area? I have good charcoal source for now but would like to get some coal asap. thanks.

Those have been listed for a while. I thought about that one too but didn't want to make 3hr drive to ks on the one pic and little info. he was firm on $300 originally. i got one since but still like to see what you got. good luck.

I like using lump charcoal. it is easy to make with simple homemade retort i found here:  http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37313

it burns clean and is as plentiful if you have access to wood. I can never find coal except for the kind that spills off trains. I like to gather that and put in retort as well.

Hi all, I'm jake and glad I found this forum. I recently purchased this 70lb anvil for $75 and was wondering if anyone here may recognise it. It has what looks like maybe an 'A' above and left of the '7'. Not sure if it is an 'A tho because font is curved. Those only markings I see. Seems fairly decent shape tho. Any help appreciated. Thanks
