Thanks Dick and Frosty. It was a fun project.

The trade item for the next BAM meeting in a couple of weeks is something that rings. This will be my offering. The bell is a 3 1/2 in oxygen cylinder, the leaf and stem is 1/2 in. round, the hanger is 1/4 x 1/2, and the striker 1/2 x 1/2. It's the first bell I've made and am pleased with how it turned out.

One of the comments is very good though, why WOULD anyone bother to "dribble" their hammer on the anvil?
It seems to me that the anvil is a tool face, just like the hammer is. And one never hits two tool faces together, do they?
I have yet to hear a single, good explanation as to why some blacksmiths do that.
To quote Frank Turley, the answer would be "Rest, Rythem, and Rumination" -
Wow. What an offer. You better jump all over that tomcelwheel.

Cranberry juice eh? Think that'll counteract a 3lb. a day habanero habit?
I just don't know of any docs who'd be willing to take a look at that!
Frosty the Lucky.
Would be kind of hard to "fill the cup" wouldn't it :o -
Really, Really, Really like that one. Great looking knife Buddy.

Thanks for all the comments. As far back as I can remember that was the only rolling pin I ever saw Mom use. My wife has a smaller one she likes better.
-
This might help.

Didn't think about that Jimmy. Maybe I should have secured it a little better to the holder. Oh well, guess I'll just have to mind my maners.

This weekend I made a holder for my great grandmother's rolling pin. It was passed to my mother who gave it to my wife a couple years ago. It has been retired after a countless number of pie crusts, and now has a place of proinance in our kitchen. I never knew her but hope she would have liked it. It didn't turn out as well a I would have liked, but that is where my skill level is right now.

Thanks Riley. The ones I've made were from 1/2" and 1" square. Using 1/4" x 1" makes sence. I'll give it a try. Thanks again.

Good looking Riley. How do you put the crease in the arms of the cross? I've made several of the split crosses but none turned out like that. I like the effect.

That is very cool!! I am ever amazed with the talent and imagination that is present on this site. Well done.

If you call that "rubbish", I've got see some of your "good" work. That looks GREAT.

Thanks Grant. That'll be a handy tool.
How's progress on the "ANVOLUTION"?
(Sorry. Had to water the seed a little.) -
Grant I really need some tongs and my poor little pea brain was smokin trying to come up with something to throw into the mix. Anyhow, the baby woke me up and the wife was snoring (don't tell her I said that) so I thought I would chime in.

The ANVOLUTION is modern alternative to the Londan Pattern anvil capable of being customized to YOUR specific needs.
Designed by an R&D team with literally hundreds of years of blacksmithing experience.
Proudly made in the USA. -
One of the nicest iv'e seen John. What are the leaves cut from?

Frosty it is good to hear your wit and humor again. Very glad to have you back. Take your time and heal up some, but don't let that purty LG sit and rust up.
-
Grant whenever the the whole blueprint issue is sorted out, I hope you post all of these helpful instructions. It sure would be nice to have them all in one place.
-
Grant you are too much. Gotta love those pics. :)

What kind of reciever are you trying to rebarrel? Brownells has the largest selection I know of.

When we bought our place it came with one of those portabl e metal car ports. The former owner bought it extra tall, 12 ft center, to park his tractor under. Since the wife decided the 28x36 shop was actually a garage for her to park in, I've started to convert the carport into a blacksmith shop. It's 20 x 24 and so far I've got the sides closed in and a walk in door hung. The West end will be closed and my side draft ran through it. The East end will have 2 5' swinging doors. Working on it has been hit & miss, but hopefully it'll be done before the weather changes too much. The floor will stay gravel and dirt. Someday hope to pour a slab and instal a power hammer.
