I would say you can be what you want, it just depends if you are good or not. With freedom of expression, you can build a lego castle and call yourself an engineer. But are you good? Do you have the requirements to be one? And like others have said. Blacksmiths don't really have degrees to be considered a registered blacksmith (to my knowledge). You can call yourself a writer, but can you write well? You can call yourself an artist, but can you draw well? So I can say confidently that you can call yourself what you want, it is just whether you are good or not.

Thank you for your responses. I'm thinking if I am going to blacksmith in any way, I'll probably have to do it on a friend's/relative's property.

I'm new to blacksmithing, I've had the urge to try it for a couple of years now. I don't see me being able to do it at home, since I live in an apartment. After registration for next year's courses. I decided to sign up for Welding. I took a sneak peak in the workshop, and talking to previous students, it seems the teacher does some smithing in there. He has us do projects like making our own anvils (Which I doubt would work well, but it's neat). Here's to hoping I can smith as a class next year.
