  1. critique? ...where to start?.......well the lighting could have been better, you really need a couple of diffusers and a tripod. i wouldve gone a neutral backdrop and ct41 for back lighting, knock the apeture down to about 2.8 or 4 to hilight the subject with depth of field............oh! you mean the finely crafted, by what appears to be work from, a skilled, patient, and precise blacksmith type personage and excellently finnished, ok ill take'm, post to me, invoice to Finnr, and do it again..

  2. Hi all, a good friend of mine is getting married soon and I'd like to make them a gift.

horse shoes are bits of straight stock with decorative holes already swedged, so ........fancy wine bottle holder, a pot rack with hooks and hand made chain links?, offer to make the candleabras for the tables for the wedding?, a wedding photo book from timber with the forged hinge thing, a drink tray from tight scrolls or patterned steel(horse shoes),,
the old timber block with the horse shoe coat rack thing, a door knocker?,,,a coffee table?........ummm
  3. anything and every thing solid?.........remember, a piece of pipe or tube to me, is just a piece of flat thats been stored differently. and bolts make great washers, rivets, and pick tools or wire. from the broken drive shaft pipe opened up i make leaves, spoons, radio brackets, drains for the forge/patches, pot racks, etc etc

  4. another silly question, I don't have any borax or anything like that. There is a welder out here, and I know how to use it. But could I just break off the flux off some welding rods grind it down and heat weld with that??

if you use the oxy to fusion weld you wont need a flux for steel. (use it like a tig)
i havent tried it but you could try salt as a flux if you cannot find another recipe on the net with a search
  5. 99% of what i forge comes out of a bin, including the bar stock......if you have industry around you they usually have bins...make the odd key ring or candle holder for the foreman of your scrap and heed their safety rules when on their sites, never hurts to ask, works for me....even score the odd contract from one or two of them.

  7. Frosty's idea basically....

or go the former in the bender, done hot, i dont have a pic of it but ive done 1 3/4 by 1/2 inch flat, spiral and have done plenty of half inch square cold. with hammer id probly weld a couple of guides to your pipe or mand. heat tap and go. hope this helps a bit.
