  1. I picked up a bench screw, the threaded part of an old woodworking vise, at the local swap meet thinking I might use it to breath new life into an old leg vise missing it's screw. Wasn't sure if the iron nut would hold up to the hammering. Never thought about the scaffold jacks - Great idea! You Guys are a Fountain of Wisdom! Regards, David
  2. Went to the local swap meet today and found a variety of steel including angle iron, channel iron, worn files, broken chisels, old jack hammer points, leaf springs, a bunch of car part including a gear box and steering linkage arms. The best find was a home made mounting bracket for a post vise I just found yesterday at a antique shop. I'll be making this a regular foraging place! Hope it's not just beginners luck!
  3. Greetings all! David here and I'm interested in getting started! Spent 2 years in machine/tool building and the next 21 years as a sheetmetal worker. Now I'm a handyman. Dabbled in gunsmithing and jewelry making. Always wanted to learn Blacksmithing and then work my way into Knifemaking. Looks like I found the right place! Great site and priceless information! Regards, David
