  1. It was an old short sword type creation I made awhile ago, so I just heated up and folded the metal a few times, and re shaped it. It's actually in a real sword shape now. Lol, it was horrible before. But folding it really made it stronger. I also did use clay for the cooling.
  2. thanks for your replies, i figured it out threw a bunch of different techniques and stuff. good learning process, trial and error.
  3. So I made a few knives and spears to start learning how to smith. And my newer creations are better. But when I went to the older stuff its more weak and flexible. And will bend but not bounce back into straight shape. Any ideas? Do I have to heat it hotter? Or cool is faster or slower? Thanks for reading.
  4. It says your in Ontario Canada? I have a blacksmith buddy with no anvil up there (I don't have an anvil either). What part of Ontario? (If your going to sell or trade or something)
  5. My recommendations are to get materials you can work with, and make sure you have the proper equipment for it, nothing like working with unsafe tools or not able to heat a metal hot enough. So find materials u can use properly and able to make what you want.
  6. Doesn't look bad, how's the dagger now? And I normally make my handles with a leather grip. Gives it a better hold when you use it.
  7. Oh wow, yeah I'm eastern side of PA, in Philadelphia, in the city. It seems a bit more tough here than in the more rural areas.
  8. I have recently wondered how to get into the field of working in metallurgy and smithing. I live in Pennsylvania and its hard to find anything like that. I know you have to train and practice with someone who is a smith, but there is isn't many around. I heard of colleges who offer degrees in that, what are you opinions on taking college classes on smithing?, and is there is any that offer and actual degree in Pennsylvania? Thank you
