Nice photo for 1948!
-
So,what's the project?
-
Thanks guys...I should be able to handle that.....maybe! lol
-
I don't know the technical name for it,but does anyone know where there may be a design(BP) of the vise-type device that has a hardy hole on one end that attaches to the lower die of a power hammer? It's for using different hardy tools on an air hammer.
TIA -
But isn't sucker rod a hollow tube?
-
I wouldn't mind having some of that wood for handles. :)
-
You could even find an actual picture that you like and a good tat artist could work something up for you.

I've never used a video camera for blacksmithing, but I have for golf.Usually no one has to tell you what you are doing wrong....you can see it instantly. So I would say that using video for anything would be a great idea, including smithing.
Good luck. -
Nice work....I hope to be that talented one day. :)

I use one,with a dimmer switch to control the blast.Hopefully it won't burn up the motor.If it does,then I'll be hand-cranking. :)
-
I was told to use light weight oil,not heavy grease.Might give it a try before you do anything radical.
-
Still in the bag,out of the weather.

Here is a link to a video of Mark Aspery forging a spring swage and then using it to form 5/8 balls. YouTube - Blacksmithing power hammer making closed die ball tool
Looks good,Jose.Thanks.I should be able to make one.:) -
So does anyone know of a BP to make a ball swage?
-
What the heck,I ordered one. Can't be that bad.

The general rule of thumb for chimneys is the top has to be atleast 2' taller than anything 10' or closer. Also, high atmosperic pressures cause chimneys not to draft,so you may want to try your fire after the weather changes.
-
If al else fails,go to a hammer-in if you can find one.People tailgate all kinds of stuff at these.
-
Try making the break drum forge. I hear it works pretty good and there is a blueprint for it too.
It DOES work well...that's what I use.I put the brake drum firepot in an old BBQ grill, and hooked it up to an older shop vac on a dimmer switch.;) -
I'm not too good cutting with a torch,and I'm too poor to have a plasma,so I might hack on it with a cut-off blade in my 4&1/2" grinder.But yes,I liked your idea,Curly
-
Could you just weld it onto an old hammer head?
-
Cool idea,Curly. What's best for cutting pipe?
-
Ok so is it necessary to use a ball pien hammer to start/form the dish-out?
-
Alright....thanks everyone
-
Ok,see if I can get this.....are you guys saying to use wood that is just flat,or has it been dished out?
