Hi Gentlemen,
I have enlisted in the hammer time build for this spring conference. My smithy is very small and I am not equipped in the tools required to forge this hammer.
I have chosen to forge a Brian Breazeal style hammer. This is my first hammer forging ever so I will be learning a lot and want to take it on a fun but serious note.
My main problem is that I don't know anyone in my area that is into blacksmithing. If you would like to help me or know of someone who might be interested please let me know A.S.A.P.

I need a good welder, flux core wire, and that will plug in to any outlet. It should also be able to weld tool grade steel along with the regular stuff around the forge. Something very portable that i could just pick up and throw in the truck, no tanks just grab and go!
I want to know what you recommend and why!

My first choice would also be the chili however my wife surprised me with a single burner bladesmith forge for my birthday. Its just like the chili just square and the opening is smaller and goes threw the forge, thankyou my love. I have had it since august 28. So I have a question, have you played around with the air flow slide much on the burner? I installed a psi regulator and run my around 8 psi.

Thank you to all who have answered my post. Some very useful advise and crazy stories. They have all given me inspiration.

I don't have the out door building to make a smithy at home.
I could use some of your ideas to help me in my search for my future smithy!

Hello to every one my name is Travis and I am very new to the blacksmithing world. I am a member of this and also NWBA. I hope to make it to the next hammer in at the longview clubhouse. I have just picked up my first anvil and its a RR track about 30 lbs now ill be working on a forge. I dont have a place yet to set up shop but i was thinking of renting a storage unit. Or maby my Mother-in-law has offered some of her space however I am quite sure it will be loud and drive her crazy. More to come any-how nice to meet everyone and if anyone lives around me maby we could hammer sometime. Later!

Very nice find. It looks better than my newly acquired RR Anvil. I'll get some pics on later.

Neil,
Thank you as well for the lead. Is it ok with you if I mention this conversation in a letter to Berkley Tack?
