    Sayings and Cornpone

The public questioning and commenting while watching the demonstrating blacksmith.

"Is that hot?" "Whacha makin?" "Ya ever been burnt?" "Don't you shoe horses?" "What's that black stuff you're burning?" "My grandfather was a blacksmith, but he was a real blacksmith!"

i got one to add to that list "is it hot in there "?

every time i feel like saying no its not that hot its only 30C out side and we are standing over a coal fire that is most likely burning at 1000 degrees what do you think

  4. Made mine from a piece of wooden dowel.  Drilled a hole through it, then ran a long bolt through the dowel.  Chucked it in my drill press and used emery cloth to profile it........redneck lathe  :D .

i like that idea i think i might have to do that

  5. All bolts that I could see, 3 around the outside of the case and 2 on top of the bracket, are removed.  This picture was just to show that I have disassembled it to a certain point.  My hands were pretty dirty, so I didn't want to touch my phone after removing the bolts

.when i redid my champion 400 i needed to keep a pail of gas to wash my hands off in  so you are not the only one that had to get your hands dirty

  6. I'd go ahead and put it back to gether and oil it. Then crank it with your hand over the outlet, see if it spins easier and with les noise. Like a hvac blower they are designed to work with back pressure. If it is still noisy or draggs ( doesn't free wheel a turn or two after you let off on it) then go back in and look at the bearings.

i think it is the bearings only one side of the shaft makes noise

but i dont know what to do

  7. hello guys

so i got that stuff that i bought the other day and i have a few questions about it

the forge has a round pot with the lip bolted onto the bottom of the table is this right it looks like it should sit on the top of it

also i got a blower for it a champion 400

but it needs just a little work a general cleaning and over hall there is only two broken parts so far its the little oil door thing any ideas for a new one. also the peace that holds the blower onto the stand any ideas n welding it thanks

  8. The stand-alone firepot has a crack in it, but the tuyere is solid.  That's a win.

The two forges are solid, and both have what appears to be working air supplies.  That's a win.

The vise is missing the gib key, wedge, spring and mounting bracket.  All of them are very easy repairs soooooo. That's a win.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to spend the money.  If you were closer, I'd buy that cracked firepot assembly from you without hesitation.

All told, you have several hundred dollars worth of parts and pieces, and all of them would make you a nice smithy.  Get on t before the next smart guy does!

i all ready did bought it for $400 going to get it on Thursday or Friday

  9. Greetings Eco,

Looks like an OK deal if the blowers are free and the forges and firepots don't have cracks...  Now my question is where is the anvil....  Many guys hold out till the last moment on that..

    Good luck

Forge on and make beautiful things   Jim
