  1. those are just things that relate machining to blacksmithing. why would i be talking about tinsmiths, goldsmiths, silversmiths, tinkers, whitesmiths, and coppersmiths on a blacksmithing forum in a thread titled modern day blacksmithing. this is retarded. i quit.
  2. this is wild because i've only recieved one reply out of 12 that replies to the topic relative to the way it was asked and i never stated a definition of blacksmith....
  3. i think the modern day blacksmith is the machinist because it is making and repairing tools and parts. plus a machinist works more in the metal, changing the material in shape and size, much the way a blacksmith would.
  4. What is the modern day blacksmith, machinist, welder, or? I know you could say the blacksmith is still very much in the modern day however this is looking at it in the light of- there must be more than two dozen shops employing machinists and welder in my city alone, but there is not a forge employing smiths in the whole state. What do you think and why?

    screw

would this be ok with a 5 tpi acme thread ? i believe it is 29 degree sides. also, if the threads are cut .100" deep, how wide should the threads be ?

    screw

screw and nut set. 1" screw major diameter, 800" minor diameter. i am thinking bore a .810" hole in the nut and go in .100" deep with the thread cutting tool in both the screw and the nut.
  8. it can be simply a fine tapered point drawn on the end of the fixed piece that bottoms out in a drilled hole in the moving piece. The hole is bigger than all parts of the point in the hole, the only contact the point makes in the hole when it is not moving is at the bottom of the drilled hole.
  9. i've seen 1-1/4" rope cut in one swing, 10 water bottles lined up cut in one sweep, ping pong balls floating on water stabbed and stick......... cutting competitions
  10. i don't know, i've forged 2" square aluminum solid, and i've heard of people forge welding aluminum
  11. ever entertain the idea of forge welding the aluminum?
