  1. I was recently asked to come up with some designs for 160 metres of railings for a cemetary wall in my local town. The drawings were done but the councillers needed something physical to touch and feel! so My friend Matthew Brown (another local blacksmith friend of mine) hepled me to make them today to get them to the meeting tomorrow. Matt will also share the job with me. We wanted to do something simple to forge, simple to jig up and something that will look effective on a long run.

  2. Garden sculpture made for an art gallery in Helmsley, north yorkshire. The finish will be galvanized with an acid etch prime and polished up. The scrolls around the base are all forge welded but all of the stems have been mig welded to the dished base.

  3. very nice. What did you use as a Finnish?

Many thanks to all for taking the time to look and comment, the finish is just a hi build vinyl paint that has been sprayed directly onto the cleaned metal surface. By cleaned we only used rotary wire brushes on grinders. the colour used is a dark grey. Again many thanks for the comments.
  4. There are some lovely forged details on all your work and with a definate eye for a good line your work really sings! as well you can see the many artists you mentioned that have influenced your work, but you have also given it a new life and stamped your own style onto it. Lovely work and hope to see a lot more of your work.

  5. Wow Adrian!! Those are great- both completely jumping out at you and yet still fitting in with the surrounding greenery! Did you paint them yourself, what kind of paint did you use? Look forward to seeing the next set!

hi colleen, thanks for the comments, the paint i used is a hi build vinyl from manor coating systems. You can paint it direct onto galv and it keys in by itself
Hope all is well and all the best for the new year
  6. many thanks for the comments guys, it was a great project that i was involved in. There were about 14 metres of railing in total, it took us about 14 days to make, including the fitting (not including the week they were at the galvanizers).
The joggles in the railings were put in using a 100 tonne press. The finials were stamped under a 5cwt Massey power hammer.
A great project to do. We still have a handrail, four window guards, and another 25metres of railings to do ( the railings will probably be started in the new year.

  7. Thanks for the comments,All items are made from stainless steel, with the hearts made in copper, all are rivetted with small copper rivets. The six hearts and the six acorns symbolize the six family members. The acorn that is wilting or broken to one side symbolizes the son that died with the remaining acorns supporting. The client supplied me with the writing around the bowl and wanted a symbolic broken branch. The basic design and rest of the content was left to me. It is a very moving piece and means alot to me but it means the world to the client and his family.
