This is the second knife i've tried; first hidden-tang ive attempted, though. My friend gave me the antler, so i stuck a knife on it. I took the advice people gave me NOT to use a bench grinder on lumber or antler, so i used a sanding disc on a drill. I didnt use any kind of glues on it, only a little bit on the leather and the cap on the butt end of the knife. The blade stuck into the handle so well the first time i put it together, i couldnt get it out! so i think it should hold. just incase that link didnt work, heres another.

That's what blacksmithing's about--if you dont have somethin, substitue it with something else! Very original, I like it. :)

I've never made a hatchet head before, though I would try one today. Made out of some kind of scrap steel i had layin around. I need a drift though, anyone know where i can find one? I havent attached a handle to it yet, gonna go to hardware store and pick one up. Any suggestions/comments appreciated . heres the picture of it--

one side of the metal had a couple holes in it, , dont think it made performance go down or anything though. -
Someone correct me if it is bad to use, but pool acid would work? I tried it, and it does etch some. It's not as powerful as other acids, but it will still badly burn skin; so all acid precautions should be taken. Soda ash will neutralize it (why we put it in pools )

Cool first knife! I cant tell if you've already tried it, but wirebrushing the handle will clean it up, and smooth it out some. Good job :)

The blade/hilt guard are made of horseshoes, and the handle is maple with brass pins. Comments/tips appreciated, thanks!
