  1. Its cast iron..idk but does everyone coat the inside of their cast iron pots...you might do better finding a cast iron floor drain sink they are the about the same size and shape as a commerical pot and they will have a drain hole in the center...you can hit up a plumber or just about everytown has that old man that has a bunch of plumbing fixtures out front for sale .find him.

  2. I have this same problem. Ive got mine piled on top of one of those trundle bed frames that has the mattress support grid/springs ... Works like a broken clock. Everything i want is on bottom and gets hung up on everything else when i try to fish it out of there..needless to say ill be watching this post for some ingenius remedy or a-ha photo post.

  3. Thanks for all the positive comments guys!! It does have quasi eyes but i just used a center punch ...eye punches is one of the tools i was thinking i need to make ...ive got 30 foot of 3/4 sucker rod to use. So far ive made a square punch, a hot cut chisel, bob punch with intentions to make more..i picked up couple jackhammer bits today to make a hot cut hardy...also been working on some texturing hammers out of the hf ball peens. Also today i made 14 of those friedrick crosses because all my neices and nephews came over for the night...still recouping from that..not the crosses..the kids lol...i let each of them be a part of their cross from start to finish. They had a blast!! Well it was actually 14 crosses and a alligator wall hook named stumpy cuz he has no legs :/

  5. Very Nice.  I just picked up a fork lift tine, and I was planning on doing something similar.  I like the stand you made, and filling it with sand is a great idea.
I might just copy you :)   What did you make yours out of ? 4140, or H13 or something like that ?  And did you harden the face somehow ?  I imagine it would
be pretty soft, especially where you torched out the Hardy hole, unless it's some sort of super duper steel?

    Nice Work

Thank you!! I got the sand idea from a post Brian had made. Im using it as a striking anvil to make hammer and such so its just mild steel no hardening at all . I torched the hole because i dont have help to lift n carry it back n forth from the forge to heat though i did think about building a movable gas burner forge to set on top of the bar and just move the forge on and off as needed lol
.but took the easy route but it was a filing nightmare...so easy wasnt so easy. Copy away my friend cuz thats exactly what i did lol
  6. Nicely done.  I could see myself using something like that.  The only thing I see that might cause problems is striking with a heavy sledge in the center may cause it to jump.  You may need to run some bracing down the center in the future.  Let us know how it works.

Thank you!!! I agree i stood back when i finished it and thought it could use another brace..
  7. I started this while the site was down and finally finished it up. While its not very unique I'm happy with the end result. The top is 21" long x 2" thick . The baseplate is 1" thick. The legs are 2" heavy wall tubing filled with sand. The hardy hole is 1 1/8" and was drifted with a torch : / .. I drilled the pritchel hole out and in the wrong spot but i hope itll workout where it is ..if not ill weld it up and move it :) . Thanks to Brian Brazeal and all that have posted theirs in the past for the inspriation.

  8. i looked at some of your posts and it seems possibly your looking for a forge liner...most farrier supply stores will sell replacement liners for the forges the sell...most here where i live carry the NC line of forges ie: whisper daddy etc ..im pretty sure you can take a internal measurement of your forge and find a replacement liner thats a lil bigger than yours and make it fit... then use until you van find what your lookin for .... when i was younger the outfit i was working for was going to ship me and my crew to assemble a vertical heater
for a refinery in ontario..so im thinkin thlere has to be a refactory installer somewhere in that town..try goin to back gate and talk to the the guy in charge of the tools and material he can hook you up with what you need...if that dont work pm me and ill drive to my guy and get you what you need as ive been working with them for years fitting super 88 steam generators ..they drop to the ground and tread on more material than youll ever need so its easy to get here. itc 100 is another story...but people order that fairly easy ..so is giving up

  9. I think possibly this is refering to a post or posts i should say..on another forum, if so shouldnt the next question be "what color should i paint my anvil" ..lol duh everyone knows its supposed to be baby blue oh a paint it before you weld it down ;) ...seriously though i thought to myself as i read those posts that in theses fellas minds they've reached the pinnacle of the blacksmithing world and the knowledge pertaining to it. they are disgusted that they are forced to read yet another RR spike transformation post or view another how do i make a forge question. In their minds these forums are no longer a gathering place for the exchanging of ideas and knowledge. instead it is a country club for the hammering elite. They would much rather read posts like look what i can make on my 50,000 dollar this or 100,000 dollar that... what color should i paint my 150,000 ton press? What theyve seem to have forgot is we all had a start at something we knew nothing about a job, a hobby etc etc ..even the hammering elite at one time couldnt get a tap out of a snake ..much less forge one.

  10. Great!
I like the angle on the hammer handles, how are you finding it for use?
    AndrewOC

So far its working great. The angle makes it easy to see each hammer and everything is out of the way so no more moving the cart here and there. The location i installed works well too, its to the left of my forge about two steps from my main anvil.
  11. I built this hammer/tool rack out of two hollywood bed frames i had picked up and other misc. pieces of steel i had in the pile. i did this to try and gain more room by eliminating the cart i had previously because it was always in the way it seemed also i had already had it full ..and as you can see by my modest hammer collection i needed more storage for the future. the top shelf is going to be for punches and chisels but i have not made the holders yet so the coffee can is it for now..i plan to build the holders similar to one yesteryearforge had posted in a thread i saw. In the future im going to build on to this rack on the left hand side. there is a door there but i want to block it anyways.
