Alec try to get something on here after christmas about the hacksaw if I slow down, just taking lunch break. My 9yr old will grab that hacksaw to cut metal before he'll ask me to cut it with the bandsaw.

I have a friend that owns a shoe store and he could sell the ugliest shoes to the sharpest dress person because he treats everyone like a favorite Relative. Thats customer service, treating everyone right and good communications.

I was using the angle grinder with a cut-off wheel and got a sliver of metal in the eye. I ended up with a rust spot. had safety glasses on but now wear those and a face shield.

Thanks guys, and yes some of the stuff I forged came from the Backyard Blacksmith. I beleive if you see some thing you like go ahead and make it, change it if you want or not. It took me only one winter of sitting around bored then I built the shop. Since I had three walls already built it didn't cost that much. My sister had the brick left over when they had their house built and the barn siding was all free. I did all the work myself. The wire from the house to the shop was free also.

Here's some pictures of my shopand some stuff I made. I took half of the garage to make the shop, the other half my wife gets to park her van in it. Built a 8'x10' shed to store stuff from garage. messed up I'll get the pictures posted.

I got into stained glass before blacksmithing, started a house number sign and want to make a forged frame for it, I might get it done in the next century.

Ash over walnut any day, but ash with walnut in-lay would look sharp! Ash stain walnut if you want the look.

The making of the leaves was a long process and I'll never do it again, live and learn. I went and picked several different sizes of grape leaves at a friends house, and transferred them onto 18ga sheet metal for my pattern. I rough cut them with O&A torch, then finished cutting on band saw. Used 3/16" sheet stock for leaves, had to bend bottom part of leaf out of the way to round up stem. Used a ballpein hammer for the texture. I made a hot cut out of a ballpein hammer to vein the leaves, they threw off a lot of heat scorched the handle. Last step took angle iron and welded bar stock on the corner so the angle iron would lay at a 45 in the vice, and used this to shape the leaves. I ended up making 83 leaves and had 5 left over. Lost money on the job but the lady started to cry when she saw the sign bracket, so made it worth making it. I didn't have any working drawings she trusted me to make it without them, this was the first time meeting her. Then I found out her Husband's Uncle owned our house before us, small world. These are the pictures of the sign bracket even though there not very good I didn't take them.

Adopt away that's what pictures are for, and I got it from Pampered Chef catalog just changed the design to keep copy right infringements out of it.

The big cross is out of a railroad spike, not making any more of them. metal is to hard on tools and me. Grape leaves are left overs from a sign bracket and I don't have any good pictures of that. Pop can holder is something my wife wanted for camping great item and sells well. The rest you all can figure out.

This shop was in my town and is at the County Fair grounds, we still use it and is a great place to work. The only draw back you have to bring our own hand tools. I pretty much empty my shop out.

yep me too!

Alec nice shop, I also like the horn to the right. I don't know if you know this but if you take muriatic acid and water ( don't know the mixture) you can clean the mortar off the bricks. You did a nice job on the forge I hate to see the mortar on the bricks. Good luck....Keep the fire burning and the metal hot!!!!!

I'm still in the process of making presents, every time I turn around I need to make a jig or a new tool. Good luck and Merry Christmas

Tim, Do Not cut up that trailer hitch, it's worth more the way it is. If you don't have a Camping trailer sell it and go get some forging tools you may need. Just in case you didn't know this information. Have fun forging!!!

How soon do you need the sleigh bell cut out, I'm going to get some cut out and I'll send you one. It will be next week before it will be done and it doesn't cost me a dime to have them cut.
